The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released a new report revealing the country has the third highest number in the world of land patrol rangers.
The ABS data shows that in 2020, there were more than 13,000 land ranger jobs in Australia.
It said land patrol workers have been working on land in the ACT for the past four years, and are working to build a new patrol vehicle, a new headquarters and a new station.
However, the agency said there were currently no plans for the new vehicles.
In the same year, there was a 15 per cent increase in the number of patrol boats deployed, which is the same as the previous year.
That figure was also up 15 per.cent from the previous three years.
Land patrol ranger numbers in the Northern Territory rose by about 5 per cent in 2020.
There were about 12,000 patrol boats in the NT in 2020 compared with about 7,000 in 2020 last year.
In the Northern Territories, there are about 2,600 patrol boats.
